Please feel free to change as you see fit, but please be respectful. To Whom it May Concern, I will try to be quick and to the point, but an issue that is near and dear to my heart and the hearts of many in the Disney fan base needs to be shared with you. We Disney fans have long appreciated Buena Vista Home Entertainment’s quality releases. However, there has been of recent years a lack of catalog releases of your animated series (The Wuzzles, Bonkers, Pepper Ann, etc.). This and the the lack of conclusions to various popular animated series that you had started releasing, but then stopped (DuckTales, Gummi Bears, Rescue Rangers, etc.) has caused many to become upset and downright frustrated. It is felt that your explanation of ‘Lack of Interest,’ is rather unfair considering the complete lack of advertising on the part of Buena Vista Home Entertainment, and the limited means many times to which these releases are offered. A number of us have as a result formed a Disney fan campaign fittingly named Disney Afternoon Forever in response to our current frustrations explained above. That being said we are well aware that the recent economic woes have caused a bit of a slowdown in DVD sales, preventing your division from releasing as many catalog titles as you have in the past. Despite that, the opportunities to legally view Disney-owned catalog titles have become frighteningly scarce, and we worry you have turned your back on the companies’ past. Most Disney owned networks favor more recent productions and syndication is all but seemingly dead. In a time when other studios have been releasing older cartoon series, some thanks to DVD-on-Demand, others thanks to allowing companies like Shout! Factory the chance to release long desired titles, we very much feel the lack of Disney related cartoon series on DVD. It mystifies us, how Warner Home Entertainment can release nearly all its Warner and Hanna-Barbera animation or how Nickelodeon has been able to release most of its 1990’s cartoon shows via DVD-on-Demand or through Shout! Factory releases and yet Disney seems to be silent on similar releases. The Walt Disney Corporation, being the largest entertainment company in the world, has a seeming aversion to releasing animated catalog titles that do not aim at an extremely juvenile demographic, or act as a tie-in to another Disney property, many times not even doing that. My fellow Disney fans and I would like nothing more than to be able to enjoy the same quality animated shows that most of us grew up on, much of it being a lot of why we are even fans of your company today. We encourage you, as a responsible company that cares for its own fan base, to please make an effort to release more of these titles. It matters not to us, whether or not they are released via retail, via a third party like Shout! Factory, or on DVD-on-Demand. In fact, we feel great emphases on DVD-on-Demand or the third party release option may be the best possible solution for this issue. Furthermore, while no one would deny great packaging, we understand the expense of box sets and disk pressings. We only ask that the material have a good transfer and its proper aspect ratio. We just want to enjoy these titles once more and have the privilege of sharing them with our children and their children. I greatly appreciate your taking your time to read this letter and hope you will consider our request.
